URBANA - Each week, we invite Illini Prairie Conference fans to predict the winners from conference matchups. New experts are welcome every week. Below is what this week's team of experts think they have figured out.

Week 6 predictions

Illini Prairie Game of the Week
Rantoul @ Pontiac

Alan: Pontiac .::. 28-14
Sara C: Pontiac .::. 21-14
Mike Roy: Pontiac .::. 21-7
Denise : Pontiac .::. 42-7
Frank Alexander: Rantoul .::. 21-20

Brooks Look: This should be an exciting game between two programs in rebuilding mode. I'm giving the Indians, who have home field advantage, the edge after knocking off IVC with a solid win and nearly upsetting Prairie Central at home in Week 2.

Pontiac 28, Rantoul 21

Unity @ Prairie Central

Alan: Unity .::. 42-14
Sara C: Unity .::. 40-20
Mike Roy: Unity .::. 35-12
Denise : Unity .::. 34-7
Frank Alexander: Unity .::. 42-12

Brooks Look: At 4-1, the Rockets will take another step toward playoff eligibility with the win under first-year head coach Tony Reetz.

Unity 54, Prairie Central 7

Illinois Valley Central @ Paxton-Buckley-Loda

Alan: Paxton-Buckley-Loda .::. 42-8
Sara C: Paxton-Buckley-Loda .::. 21-20
Mike Roy: Paxton-Buckley-Loda .::. 40-7
Denise : Illinois Valley Central .::. 28-14
Frank Alexander: Paxton-Buckley-Loda .::. 21-14

Brooks Look: The Panthers need this win to shake off last week's 6-point road loss to Tuscola before taking on the Unity Rockets next week.

Paxton-Buckley-Loda 48, IVC 7

St. Joseph-Ogden vs Monticello

Alan: St. Joseph-Ogden .::. 35-21
Sara C: St. Joseph-Ogden .::. 30-27
Mike Roy: Monticello .::. 21-20
Denise : St. Joseph-Ogden .::. 28-24
Frank Alexander: St. Joseph-Ogden .::. 35-21

Brooks Look: Nothing better than a homecoming win and getting your big toe in the playoff door. SJO will need to keep the foot on the gas until the final buzzer because the Sages are full of surprises if an opposing team sleeps on them to early. If the Spartan defense can hold Monticello to two TDs or less, it's a win.

SJO 35, Monticello 15

Central Catholic vs St. Teresa

Alan: Central Catholic .::. 40-14
Sara C: Central Catholic .::. 32-21
Mike Roy: Central Catholic .::. 48-12
Denise : Central Catholic .::. 42-7
Frank Alexander: Central Catholic .::. 35-7

Brooks Look: The Saints stay undefeated after this non-conference contest with the Bulldogs.

Central Catholic 51, St. Teresa 7

St. Joseph-Ogden's Cameron Wagner provides pass protection during a play in last year's home game against Unity. The Rockets are back at Dick Duval Field for this year's Illini Prairie Conference regular season football game.

URBANA - Each week, we invite Illini Prairie Conference fans to predict the winners from conference matchups. New experts are welcome every week. Here what the team of experts say this week.

Week 4 predictions

Illini Prairie Game of the Week

Prairie Central (2-1)
vs Paxton-Buckley-Loda (1-2)

Sara: Paxton-Buckley-Loda .::. 24-21
Alan: Paxton-Buckley-Loda .::. 24-21
J: Paxton-Buckley-Loda .::. 35-14
Lyman: Paxton-Buckley-Loda .::. 34-27
Denise: Prairie Central .::. 27-14

Brooks Look: Last week, Prairie Central proved it could contain St. Teresa's balance attack when it needed it most. Despite allowing 407 yards, the Hawks walked away with a 14-13 win in the non-conference game last Saturday. Meanwhile, PBL quarterback Sam Hall threw 11 passes for 265 yards and six - yes, six TD passes in last week's game against Pontiac. The Panthers' star running back Mason Vaughan average 6.9 yards a carry for 125 yards. If the Paxton-Buckley-Loda's defense can bring their A-game this week, they'll have have win #2 in their back pocket.

Paxton-Buckley-Loda 27, Prairie Central 14

Monticello (2-1) @ St. Teresa (1-2)

Sara: St. Teresa .::. 27-24
Alan: Monticello .::. 28-14
J: Monticello .::. 35-14
Lyman: Monticello .::. 21-7
Denise: Monticello .::. 24-10

Brooks Look: This is an exciting football match-up that will be worth twice the price of admission. The question: Can the Sages shutdown the Bulldogs' offense on their home field? This has all the markings of an overtime win for St. T in Monticello.

St. Teresa 28, Monticello 21

Pontiac (0-3) vs Illinois Valley Central (0-3)

Sara: Illinois Valley Central .::. 32-13
Alan: Illinois Valley Central .::. 35-13
J: Pontiac .::. 22-12
Lyman: Pontiac .::. 7-0
Denise: Pontiac .::. 14-6

Brooks Look: Easy choice here. After putting up a season-high 22 points on PBL last week, Pontiac comes out on top in this pairing with their first win of the season.

Pontiac 24, Illinois Valley Central 13

Rantoul (0-3) @ Central Catholic (3-0)

Sara: Central Catholic .::. 50-6
Alan: Central Catholic .::. 42-6
J: Central Catholic .::. 41-0
Lyman: Central Catholic .::. 56-0
Denise: Central Catholic .::. 21-0

Brooks Look: Central Catholic is one of three IPC teams in the top ten of the AP Class 3A polls. With the speed, size, and athleticism this team brings to gridiron, it will be hard for them to lose this one.

Central Catholic 56, Rantoul 6

Unity (2-1) @ St. Joseph-Ogden (3-0)

Sara: St. Joseph-Ogden .::. 36-27
Alan: St. Joseph-Ogden .::. 31-28
J: Unity .::. 27-20
Lyman: St. Joseph-Ogden .::. 31-24
Denise: St. Joseph-Ogden .::. 24-17

Brooks Look: There has never been a boring St. Joseph-Ogden - Unity game. Last year, the Spartans came out on top thanks to kicker Charlie Schmitz booting the game-winning field goal from 31 yards out with 1.2 seconds left on the clock to seal a 24-21 victory at Dick Duval Field. The Rockets extracted revenge with a 35-7 second-round playoff victory eliminating SJO. This year, the game comes down to which team has the better defense. The Spartans will come close to making it three-consecutive regular season wins against the Rockets but won't be able to finish the job in overtime.

Unity 28, St. Joseph-Ogden 21

Friday Night Forecast |
Week 3 Illini Prairie football predictions

IPC football fans, grab your popcorn! IPC football fans test their prediction skills in The Sentinel’s weekly Friday Night Forecast.

URBANA - Are you ready for Week 3 of another round of the Friday Night Forecast? Each week, we invite Illini Prairie Conference fans to predict the winners from conference matchups. We welcome two new soothsayers to the pool this week. Here is who they picked and what Brooks Look says.

Week 3 predictions

Illini Prairie Game of the Week
Prairie Central (1-1) @ St. Teresa (1-1)

Sara: Prairie Central .::. 28-27
Lyman: St. Teresa .::. 14-10
Denise: Prairie Central .::. 21-14
Alan: Prairie Central .::. 27-22
Keith: St. Teresa .::. 33-14
J: St. Teresa .::. 27-14

Brooks Look: Despited their loss, the Bulldogs ran for 184 yards against Illini West and beat Urbana with just 76 total yards. St. Teresa gets the nod only because of hometown advantage in this one.

St. Teresa 28, Prairie Central 14

Paxton-Buckley-Loda (0-2)
@ Pontiac (0-2)

Sara: Paxton-Buckley-Loda .::. 24-21
Lyman: Paxton-Buckley-Loda .::. 35-0
Denise: Paxton-Buckley-Loda .::. 27-7
Alan: Paxton-Buckley-Loda .::. 28-20
Keith: Paxton-Buckley-Loda .::. 26-0
J: Paxton-Buckley-Loda .::. 34-6

Brooks Look: Panthers' Mason Vaughn, who led his team in rushing against St. Joseph-Ogden, never made it into the end zone. Nonetheless, the senior looked impressive with 77 yards on 19 carries. This week, he rectifies all of that with three scores to give PBL their first victory of the season. Pontiac is young but not a pushover. Fans on both sides will be on the edge of their seats up north.

PBL 28, Pontiac 14

Central Catholic(2-0) @ Unity (2-0)

Sara: Unity .::. 40-21
Lyman: Unity .::. 21-17
Denise: Unity .::. 42-7
Alan: Unity .::. 36-14
Keith: Unity .::. 27-21
J: Unity .::. 27-7

Brooks Look: Unity's defensive is big and fast and the offense can air it out or pound it on the ground. The Saints don't have a prayer against the Rockets and their complete package.

Unity 42, Central Catholic 14

Monticello (1-1) @ Rantoul (0-2)

Sara: Monticello .::. 48-6
Lyman: Monticello .::. 35-14
Denise: Monticello .::. 44-0
Alan: Monticello .::. 42-13
Keith: Monticello .::. 35-0
J: Monticello .::. 48-0

Brooks Look: Both team suffered losses in Week 2 and both will take the field with something to prove. Monticello pulls this out in the second half after a brief scare as the Eagles program continues to improve.

Monticello 34, Rantoul 13

St. Joseph-Ogden (2-0)
@ Illinois Valley Central (0-2)

Sara: St. Joseph-Ogden .::. 37-20
Lyman: St. Joseph-Ogden .::. 42-0
Denise: St. Joseph-Ogden .::. 35-7
Alan: St. Joseph-Ogden .::. 35-14
Keith: St. Joseph-Ogden .::. 51-6
J: St. Joseph-Ogden .::. 41-14

Brooks Look: St. Joseph-Ogden has too much unpredictable firepower with Kodey McKinney in the pocket. The senior signal caller showed polished maturity against PBL. Kaden Wedig and Tim Blackburn-Kelley are dual receiving threats who combined for 172 receiving yards against the Panthers last week.

St.Joseph-Ogden 42, IVC 12

ST. JOSEPH - Spartans' Tim Blackburn-Kelley threads his way through Paxton-Buckley-Loda's defense on his way to first down. It took most of the night for Blackburn-Kelley to find his way into the end zone for 6. The senior ran the ball in from 17 yards out to pad SJO's 35-12 home win on Friday.
