Panthers' Ellie Dirks and Hallie Johnson bashed 10 and 9 kills, respectively. Logan Loschen served four of the team's 11 aces. Bella Martin paced the Comets' offense with six kills. The Oakwood defensive effort kept the game close with 46 digs. Ainsley Lyons, Aria Elliott and Martin were responsible for eight each.

Vivian Smith led St. Joseph-Ogden's offensive attack with six kills. Junior Addi Stevens chipped in another five in the non-conference victory.

"From the start, we came out with a postive mindset and played consistently in many areas," Stevens said. "We had great defense in the back row, which gave our setters all three options in the front row. We also served well and that was a very big part of our game tonight. Throughout the game our coaches could see the court, giving all hitters options on where to put the ball."

Alivia Learnerd distributed 11 assists for SJO.

Westville Tigers advance in Class 2A volleyball semifinal

Junior Ady Blakeney celebrates a point for Westville with teammates Lainey Wichtowski and Lexi Shumacher during first set action against Marshall at the St. Joseph-Ogden High School volleyball regionals. The Tigers went on to defeat the Lions in their semifinal match in a three-setter, 25-17, 21-25, 25-18. Westville advanced to the regional championship match to face Unity, who defeated host St. Joseph-Ogden 2-1 in the matinee match.

Point - Spartans!

(Left to right) St. Joseph-Ogden's Anna Wentzloff, Alex Frerichs, Hannah Umbarger and Shayne Immke celebrate a point for the Spartans with head coach Abby McDonald during game three of their Class 2A supersectional match against Chicago Christian. After dropping the first set, SJO came back to take the match 2-1 on November 8, 2019. McDonald and the Spartans went on to finish third in the state during the 2019-20 season. After a nearly a eight month delay for their season, McDonald and the Spartans can begin practicing for the 2021 spring season on Monday. This academic year the IHSA volleyball season will run March 15, or seven days after the team's first practice after that date, until April 24.
