Maroons hold off second half rally to beat Chargers at soccer showcase

CHAMPAIGN - Centennial's Lily Kelly and Central's Grace Pelz battle for ball possession during their conference match at the C-U Soccer Consortium's 2nd Annual Girls Soccer Showcase. Taking an early 3-0 lead, the Maroons defeated the Chargers 4-3 at Demirjian Park on the University of Illinois campus on Sunday. Check back for more match photos on Friday.

Chargers notch home win over Sabers

CHAMPAIGN - St. Thomas More goalkeeper Keagan Markun makes a save during last Monday's road game at Centennial. The Sabers (3-4-1), who fell 4-1 to the Chargers, bounced back a day later picking up a 1-0 win on their home pitch over the visiting Danville Vikings. 26.2 mile course is back for the Illinois Marathon

URBANA - Ryan Somerfield grabs a quick drink while running down Washington Avenue while running in the Illinois Half Marathon in 2023. The 26.2-mile race was canceled for a second year last April because of the lack of available law enforcement staffing from Champaign and Urbana to provide course security and traffic management. The marathon is back in the race lineup in two weeks, along with the half marathon, 10K, and 5K race on Friday. Somerfield, from San Francisco, finished 29th overall and 8th in his age division with 141 male runners 25-29. He completed the course in 1:18:41.
