Submit Obituaries to The Sentinel
Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting to newspapers and other media outlets. Starting January 2022, The Sentinel now accepts obituaries for members of the communities we cover or had a direct impact on the lives of residents from funeral homes free of charge.
The Sentinel is happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death. In an email, we will need from you;
Your name
Your phone number
The exact text you want to be printed
The name of the funeral home taking care of arrangements
The phone number of the funeral home taking care of arrangements
The date you would like to see your obituary published
If you are not working with a funeral home, then the name and number of a mortuary, crematorium, or medical donation program will also be sufficient. If you do not have that information, we can also accept a scanned death certificate. The information provided for verification purposes only will remain private and will not be published in the obituary. You will receive an email with further instructions once we have verified the passing of the deceased with a licensed party. There is no charge for this service.
For tips on writing an obituary, click here. Please submit the obituary at least days before planned services, if possible.
To submit the obituary, please email it to editor@oursentinel.com with “Obituary” in the subject line. Attach up to two photos along with the obituary if you would like them to accompany the text.
