SJO wins at home

St. Joseph-Ogden's Aaron Woller dribbles the ball around a Momence player during the Spartans' home game on February 8, 2013. Woller drained two free throws in the fourth quarter to help SJO defeat the visiting Redskins, 53-41. Woller and the St. Joseph-Ogden program went on to finish the season fourth in the state in Class 2A.

Friday

Spartans' Kelsie Rademacher goes up for an easy shot under the basket during the third quarter. She finished the contest with six points. The St. Joseph-Ogden girls team would go on to win their next four games heading into the State Farm Holiday Classic the last week of December. The program finished the 2009-10 season with 18 wins against 10 losses and in second place in the Sangamon Valley Conference final standings.

Unity ball carrier Taylor White pounds the ball through the St. Thomas More defensive effort in their conference game on October 3, 2014. The senior quarterback finished the night with 150 yards and four touchdowns. Improving their record to 5-1 on the season, the Rockets rushed past the Sabers at Henneman Field to a 49-14 road victory.

Left: St. Joseph-Ogden junior Mark Gones tries rolling out of a pin attempt by Maroons' Mario Pulani. Pulani won the decision 15-3 to help Central's cause. The decision mattered little in the Spartans' huge program victory that year. Gones went on that season to qualify for state the 152-lb weight class in February of 2005 along with five other SJO qualifiers that included Lukas Graves (Freshman, 112), Blake Speckman (Sophomore, 140), Billy Gallo (Junior, 145), Tim Hill (Senior, 160) and Ben Gorman (Senior, 171). Left: Spartan senior Ryan Barnes, who most recently became a proud father, returns a Clifton Central punt. Barnes's game was highlighted with a 30 yard pass for a TD in the first half. Right: Jake Parke stands up a Comet defender while playing on the line during an extra point attempt. In addition to his special teams blocking duties, Parke played at linebacker and running back. The senior contributed 18 of the 56 points in the home win. SJO went on to finish the season with a 10-2 record.

This week's Throwback Thursday treat is from SJO's home football playoff game against Marshall back on November 5, 2005. The Spartans, who defeated the Lions on their home turf (or what little there was that day) a year earlier, posted a 41-0 shutout advancing to face the Unity Rockets on the road the following Saturday.

Quarterback Isaiah Olson pivots to hand off the ball during fourth-quarter action for the Spartans. A year and some 14 days later, Olson would go on to set an IHSA state football title game record in Class 3A for the most individual passing yards that still stands as of today. In that game, the senior threw for 276 yards and completed 20 of his 29 yard pass attempts including three touchdowns.
