Unity dance team competes at state

Members of the Rockettes perform their routine at the IHSA Competitive Dance State Finals on Friday. Despite a solid performance, the Unity dance squad failed to make the cut into the top 12 teams in Class 1A and advance to Saturday's finals. This year's team includes Faith Lampe, Olivia Egelston, Lily Steffens, Desiré De Los Santos, Kourtney Russell, Ava Holladay, Lindsey Johnson, Ella Darnall and Chloe Cousins. Spartans and Rockets dance squads advance to state finals

MASCOUTAH - The SJO Dance Team and Unity Rockettes placed in top six at the Mascoutah Sectional, advancing to the Illinois High School Association's Competitive Dance State Finals this Friday and Saturday at Grossinger Motor Arena in Bloomington.

The Spartans finished third in Saturday's subsectional competition against 14 other schools, earning a score of 81.87. Unity, in the same subsectional finished ahead of Mattoon with a 78.83 in fifth place.

The sectional championship title went to Jacksonville (90.07), with Clinton (87.57) finishing in the runnerup spot.

The state final competition will at 101 South Madison Street. Tickets can be purchased online at here or by calling the box office at the area at 309-434-2777.

The IHSA will annouce the performance order later this week.

Rockettes dynamic routine unable to blast squad into IHSA finals

BLOOMINGTON - Members of the Rockettes Dance Team perform during Friday's preliminary round at the IHSA Competitive Dance State Finals. The Unity squad, which qualified for state at the St. Anthony sectional nearly a week earlier, failed to advance to Saturday's championship round finish 18th out of the 30 best squads in the state. The team missed qualifying for the final round for the fifth time since 2015 by just 4.62 points. See more photos from the team's performance at state here.

Rocket dancers roll into championship round at state

Members of the Rockettes perform at the Illinois High School Association's Competitive State Dance Finals in January. The Unity dance squad advanced to Saturday's trophy round after turning in a score 81.94 to be one of the top 12 teams to advance to the finals. The only Illini Prairie Conference program to reach day 2 of competition, Unity finished in 12th place on February 1.
