Despite a solid first half, St. Joseph-Ogden soccer team opens season with loss

St. Joseph - St. Joseph-Ogden's Logan Patton settles the ball to keep it away from Oakwood-Salt Fork's Saul Carrillo during their season opener at Dick Duval Field on Monday. The Spartans, who are back on the pitch again today, fell 5-1 to the visiting Comets. SJO hosts the Bombers of Argenta-Oreana at 6:30 pm looking to bounce back from yesterday's loss. Rockets take on Rantoul, Spartans vs Spartans tonight

The season is winding down and their still time to watch five area sports teams tonight on the NFHS Network.

The Rockets girls basketball varsity and JV squad travel to Rantoul for an Illini Prairie Conference contest today. The Eagles (0-4) are still looking for their first win of the season, while Unity, 1-7 overall and 1-4 in conference play, would like to add yet another victory to their win column tonight.

The St. Joseph-Ogden girls teams are also on the road tonight at Olympia, who are tied for third place with Monticello as of today with a pair of conference wins and one loss. The Spartans are currently ranked #2 with victories over five IPC teams.

The undefeated St. Joseph-Ogden girls basketball team host the Unity Rockets tonight with both a junior varsity and varsity contest tonight. Both games along with Unity Middle School boys basketball's home game against Marshall are available this evening on the NFHS Network.

Breaking | First two SJO boys basketball games canceled

Per an email message yesterday afternoon from St. Joseph-Ogden Athletic Director Justin Franzen, the first two boys basketball games of the season have been canceled.

The Spartans, both JV and varsity squads, were scheduled to open the 2021 season against former Sangamon Valley Conference foe Cissna Park High School in the Main Gym on Friday. Four days later, SJO planned to host St. Thomas More for their first Illini Prairie Conference contest this year.

Franzen indicated that both games were canceled due to required COVID-19 quarantine and mitigation measures.

The girls' JV and varsity home openers are still scheduled to be played at this time.

Facing limit fan capacity for home games this season, the SJO Fan Club purchased video cameras for both the main gym and outdoor sports facilities so that all home Spartan athletic events will be streamed live via the NFHS Network at a subscription cost of $10.99 per month. Fans can save almost half of the year fee by purchasing an annual subscription at $69.99.

All Spartan basketball, volleyball, and wrestling meets will be broadcasted on the network. Bookmark this page to enjoy watching SJO sports online until public health mandated spectator limitations are lifted.
